Transformer, Installation, 1996
In an empty former foundry in Chemnitz
(Saxon) I reanimated the production process by installing a light beam
in the big hall (56 meters long). In a little room I built the "furnace",
that sent out light with a high intensity into the hall. The light rectangle
after crossing the hall also formed a light rectangle on the opposite wall.
The observers crossing the light beam are inevitably dazzled and only after
this (or observe their own shadows on the opposite wall) they begin to
notice the existence of this light object. In contrast to this immaterial
structure I put a 177 meters long aluminium strip on the ground outside
the hall.
